Celebrate Why You Love Your Cat This October #PurrfectTogether

Our Cappy: Purrfect Together

by Joan Stewart Smith, Guest Blogger

Before our beloved cat came into our home, it was my teenage son who chose him over a cacophony of cats at the pet adoption center. He named this gentle tuxedo cat “Capulet” because he’d just acted in a youth production of “Romeo and Juliet,” playing Juliet’s tyrannical father.  But the only tyrannical thing about our sweet-natured Cappy was the hold he soon had on our hearts.

It’s tough being a teenager. Because my son didn’t grow up with siblings, he faced a learning curve adapting to a willful fellow creature, as cats will be cats. Cappy was going through his own issues, suddenly facing a strange new world without his previous owner. But soon their relationship flourished.

They say that 80 percent of cat parents believe they can interpret their kitty’s meows.  When our very vocal Cappy calls out, my son knows exactly what he wants.  Each time that happens, I am reminded that he chose the perfect cat for our family.

Another fun Meow Mix Cat Stat...

Create your own Meowsterpiece, like the oil painting at the top of this post which I created with a photo I took of Cappy. In honor of Pet Wellness Month and Black Cat Awareness Month, it's so easy to show your kitty how much they're loved by creating this wonderful free cat lover's keepsake.

  13. We have two rescue dogs and I had a cat growing up and I can say with all certainty that there is nothing like the bond between a pet and their person. I have seen how our three dogs have changed my kids in ways that are hard to articulate and after reading this post it seems that your kitty has had a wonderful effect on your son!

They form special bonds with us that truly make a difference.

  15. Ya... I have 5 kids I don't wanna do pets haha but I must say that having pets around is good for the kids. They learn to be more gentle and kind and think about others instead of themselves.
