There was something for everyone young and old in sunny California this week at Gamestop Expo 2014 from game-loving children playing hooky from school for a day on the showroom floor with their moms and dads in tow, to serious gamers participating in adult tournaments, to hobbyists playing the games they already love and experimenting with new ones including some that have yet to be launched.

Only around since 2012, this event is billed as the hottest new expo in gaming by the organizers GameStop. Diversity was the name of the game at this gaming convention at Anaheim Convention Center which drew thousands of female and male fans from Southern California and beyond including gaming enthusiasts dressed in amazing character costumes spotted here and there among the crowd.

One day from 11am - 6 pm (with VIPs paying $100 a ticket for the privilege of early admission 1-1/2 hours before the show opened to the public) simply wasn't enough. So little time and so much to do and see inside the 300,000 square foot venue. This year's expo played host to a Who's Who in Gaming booths including Microsoft, EA, Sony, Ubisoft, Sega, Nintendo, Disney Interactive, WB Games, Activision, 2K, Turtle Beach, Skull Candy, Bandai and dozens of others including well-known as well as smaller, up and coming game developers.

There was no shortage of fun things to do beyond test driving some of uber popular games like Call of Duty, Far Cry4 and Destiny. For the younger set there was a chance to interact with the Disney Infinity game and all the character figures that are available for in-game fun. Entertaining sideshows included an abundance of photo booths with fun sets, props and special effects. Also really cool was all the swag giveaways up for grabs and some awesome rafflets to win major gear such as XBoxONE and PS4 consoles.

Among my personal fave exhibitors at the expo wasn't a gaming vendor at all. It was Musterbrand which is a very trendy finely detailed lifestyle and fashion brand of apparel, laptop bags, and accessories for the gaming culture that's available exclusively online, shipping to many countries around the world from the U.S. and Asia to South Africa and Israel.

Other noteworthy stops in the expo hall included Warner Brothers' extensive museum quality hand painted and decorated Batman Cape and Cowl and Batmobile display celebrating 75 years of Batman. And let's not forget that GameStop Pre-Order Exclusive - the sleek white 2011 Laborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera that everyone was drooling over in the expo hall.
