Living directly under the final approach to Santa Monica Airport, I always know something important is going on in town when the number of private jets flying over the neighborhood spikes. And with Oscar Week just a few days away and the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, February 28, local luxury plane traffic is increasing big time right now. Even if you're not here in Los Angeles, across the world Oscar Fever is definitely heating up for one of the most popular television broadcasts of the year.

There are so many great ways for everyone who loves entertainment to partake in the excitement of the Oscars via your smartphones and tablets.  From all the Vanity Fair parties and events I've been invited to cover for MBE next week from Feb 24-28, to the Oscar Night red carpet fashion, to the awards themselves, to the post ceremony parties and after-awards commentaries, there will be so much going on.

Best Apps to Take it All In

In addition to logging into Oscar.com, 2021 Inside the Oscars Podcast, and playing along by printing your own free Oscars Ballot PDF and predicting the winners, below are my top picks to enhance your enjoyment and engagement in all the festivities. Go ahead and indulge, because as the Academy says, "We All Dream in Gold."

Official Oscars App
For iOS and Android users, check out the ABC show-focused apps offering goldmine of functionality and fun beyond what you'll see on the actual telecast. Thanks to webcams strategically placed around the awards venue at Hollywood & Highland Center, using this app you'll be able to view the winners' extended Thank Yous, as well as get an insider's view backstage, in the control room and in the press room.  The apps continue to be better each year so you can expect the newest versions to  allow even more unprecedented viewing and sharing options as well as gives you the chance to see more video and interact with all the Oscar Night excitement.

Fandango App
Offers apps for both iOS and Android as well as Apple Watch, where you can find which theaters are open and what health safety protocols are in place as well as do ticket purchasing and theater seat selection.

IMDb App
Whether for iOS or Android, this is your go-to source to see all the details of every movie ever made. This will come in handy if you want to try and see some or most of the movies up for awards this year as well as to consult while you're watching the Oscars and you want to see a trailer, a complete list of crew and cast members, or other trivia for a particular movie.

Pinterest App
The well-known platform Pinterest, which runs on both iOS and Android, is a personal favorite of mine. As you'll see from MBE's dedicated Oscar Night Party Ideas Pinterest board, this is an incredible source featuring a seemingly infinite stream of creative DIY ideas for those of you who will be holding an Oscar viewing party at home this year. You'll find a huge stash of Oscar Watching Party DIY Crafts and Recipes, including easy-to-do projects of every type imaginable from free printable invitations and ballots for your guests to predict the winners to inside and outside decorations, photo booths and props, entertaining ideas and Oscar-theme food and drink recipes.
