What to Know Before Shopping Kitchen Appliances

Kitchen

Spring is here, time for new beginnings... to renew and refresh our home lifestyles. This is especially true whether you've been dreaming about replacing one or more of your kitchen appliances or are thinking of doing a total kitchen remodel to update your home and make it more functional for the way your family lives.

I've learned from personal experience that choosing new appliances can be overwhelming if you don't do a little bit of groundwork ahead of time to educate yourself before heading to the store.

Likely, if you're reading this post, you've probably experienced something similar in terms of not knowing where to start because there are so many options out there. Keep reading for some great tips on launching your dream kitchen project.

Selecting Appliances That Fit

Choosing an appliance color and style that meshes with your overall likes and decor is one of the first decisions you'll need to make. But, remember to make sure the appliances you are considering fit into the kitchen space you've allotted for them, too. You can easily do this by very carefully using a measuring tape to size up the areas where you are planning to install new major appliances. Also, to avoid having to knock down part of a wall, before purchasing your appliances, measure the door through which they'll be delivered.

Energy Efficiency

Another important consideration, especially nowadays with rising utility costs, is buying appliances which use water, electricity and/or gas most efficiently. This applies most major appliances including refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, stove tops, washers and dryers and more. Read and compare those bright yellow ENERGY STAR labels to learn how efficient various appliances are so you can compare them, looking at how much water, electricity and gas they consume. Then, compare models and choose the best one(s) for you.

How to Save Money

Keep in mind that when doing a kitchen remodel, you can save big chunks of money on electrical, gas lines, plumbing and more by installing new appliances in the same location as the ones you're replacing. Once you've zeroed in on the appliance models you'd like, compare prices by shopping online and in-store at places offering big savings like Best Buy which is currently holding its big Remodeling Sales Event (more details below). Make a list of questions and bring it with you so you'll be prepared to ask when you've connected with a knowledgeable sales person who can help you find just what you're looking for.

In the end, remember you want quality, appliances that will last and serve your particular purposes. Chosen well, they're an investment that will deliver big dividends through years of use and enjoyment.
