Fuel Your School Kids Education Giftcard

Education

Chevron Supports Education in SoCal

All my four kids attended LAUSD public schools at some point prior to graduating from high school. Thankfully they’re all thriving in college now. Yet, it frustrates me to no end to know that current public school budgets are even smaller and limited than when my own children were young. So, when Chevron approached me to share about their Fuel Your School program in collaboration with charity DonorsChoose.org benefitting classrooms in public schools in our Southern California backyard -- I was on board from the get-go.

STEM Kids

MBE partnered with Chevron for this post

Today’s moms and dads raising school age youngsters know making sure your son or daughter gets the best education possible now is more essential than ever to ensuring their future success. If your own child is enrolled in the local public school system, you’re probably experiencing first-hand the effects of continued cuts in funding.

What might surprise you, though, is to learn that classroom budgets are even more limited than you might realize, with the average teacher spending $500 per year according to the Education Market Association. That means your child’s teacher is likely spending hundreds of dollars annually out of his/her own pocket to buy needed teaching supplies and materials for their students.

To further boys’ and girls’ all-around education, especially in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) Chevron is helping to support teachers and contribute classroom material funding at public schools in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County. In fact, Chevron is donating up to $500,00 to help fund eligible general education, as well as STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) classroom projects.

How Fuel Your School Works

It’s easy to help raise funds for participating South Bay public school(s) in LA County during the entire month through October 31, 2017. Help spread the word among family, neighbors and friends that every time you fill up your vehicle with 8 or more gallons at participating Chevron and Texaco gas stations, Fuel Your School will donate $1 (up to $500,000) to eligible local public school classrooms. Parents are also encouraged to contribute to fulfill the requests of their child’s teachers and reach funding goals even sooner.

To date, Fuel Your School has locally helped fund 1,948 classroom projects at 234 schools in select cities in the South Bay Area of the Los Angeles area. Since inception in 2010, Fuel Your School has helped fund 39,496 classroom projects at 5,134 schools throughout the U.S.

Participating cities within LA County include Carson, Compton, Culver City, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Marina Del Rey, Playa del Rey, Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Redondo Beach, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, Torrance, and Lomita. All Chevron-branded and Texaco-branded stations in and around the South Bay Area of LA County, California are participating in this program.
