Fall & Halloween Kids Titles

You know what's really scary, but also exciting? The diverse array of all-new spooky children's books parents and kids from toddlers through teenagers will discover in Simon & Schuster's Fall 2020 youth collection.

Fall 2020 New Kids Books

Among the season's 23 new titles literally covering the full age range of kids to enjoy are board books for toddlers; beautifully-illustrated picture books for preschoolers; fun titles for early book worms to read aloud; books to entertain seasoned middle grade readers of tweens; and several new dark and exciting Young Adult (YA) reads for the more independent teenage crowd.

Halloween Kids Board Books 2020

Board Books for Toddlers

Starting off, for the youngest kids are some adorable seasonally-inspired board books including In a Spooky Haunted House ($12.99) by Joel Stern, an author my family happens to know personally since he was my son's first origami teacher. Other cute sturdy Simon & Schuster books for little ones are a 3D novelty board book shaped like a cat called One Black Cat ($7.99) by Robie Rogge and Click, Clack, Boo! ($12.99), written and illustrated by the popular New York Times bestselling duo Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin who brought us Farmer Brown and his animal friends to young children's literature.

Fall Picture Books Kids 2020

Picture Books for Young Kids

For kids who enjoy being read to or even reading to a big brother, sister, or you, how about I Love My Fangs ($17.99) by Kelly Leigh Miller? Another new good one is The Little Kitten ($16.99) by Nicola Killen featuring interactive die cut pages. And for unicorn fans, check out Unicorns Are the Worst ($17.99) by Alex Willan, a funny and imaginative illustrated book about celebrating differences when a grumpy goblin first meets the new unicorns in the neighborhood. Also among the Simon & Schuster new fall picture books are In My Creepy Valentine ($17.99) by Arthur Howard; Spooky Sticker Surprise ($6.99) by Ryan Kaji, an interactive storybook which includes a spook-tactular sheet of stickers; and a scratch-and-sniff book called Daniel's Apple Picking Adventure ($8.99), adapted by Maggie Testa.

Kids Early Reader Fall Books

Creepy Stories for Early Readers

Spooky adventure books for new readers ages 5 to 9 include Henry Heckelbeck and the Haunted Hideout ($5.99) by Wanda Coven and Escape from the Roller Ghoster ($5.99) by Andres Miedoso. Kids ages 5 through 7 might enjoy Ready, Set, Scream! ($17.99) adapted by Ximena Hastings and based on the popular Hotel Transylvania series on Disney Channel. Meanwhile 6 to 9 year-olds can dive into Basil and the Library Ghost ($5.99) by Cathy Hapka and for the older budding readers there other fun chapter books such as Monster of Disguise ($5.99) by Joe McGee (Ages 7-10) and The Creature in Room #YTH-125 ($6.99) by Mark Young (Ages 8-12).

Books Middle Grades Kids Fall 2020

Intriguing Books for the Middle Grades

Creepy and magical stories abound for readers age 8 to 12 in this collection. Among the selection ranging from mysterious to fantastical to choose from are Whispering Pines ($17.99) by Heidi Lang and Kati Bartkowski; Beetle & The Hollow Bones ($21.99) by Aliza Layne; Time of Green Magic ($17.99) by Hilary McKay; Daring of Della Dupree ($17.99) by Natasha Lowe; and Bye-Bye Blue Creek ($17.99) by Andrew Smith, a story about vampires who move into the house next door which is a follow up novel to Smith's The Size of Truth.

Fall Young Adult Books

Young Adult Literature for Ages 12-14 and Up

Last, but not least, are several new riveting dark YA Fall 2020 book releases perfect for the season of ghosts and goblins. For Age 12+ teen readers will want to check out Magic Dark And Strange ($18.99) by Kelly Powell. In this historical fantasy, think The Bone Witch meets Sherlock Holmes, a girl with the ability to raise the dead digs into the dark, dangerous and magical underworld to stop a series of murders. Then, in Silent As The Grave by Zoe Aarsen ($12.99) for ages 14 and up -- the third and final installment of the Light As a Feather series -- McKenna is tasked with interceding and saving her friends from their predicted deaths.
