Chipotles and Aztec Culture

Fun Fact: Chipotles are actually smoke-dried jalapeno peppers, which because of their food preservation qualities, were favored in cooking by ancient cultures such as the Aztecs in Mesoamerica. The Spanish word chipotle is derived from the Nahuatl (language of the Aztecs) "chilpocti" which means smoked chili.
