Historically Halloween in the U.S. has always been a favorite holiday that is celebrated by both kids and adults.  Despite the current state of the American economy -- Yes, I do think we are still in the midst of the Great Recession -- based on all the great FREE ideas for crafts, food, and parties I've discovered to share with you, I'm betting that this season will be just as fun.

For starters, Evite is overflowing with lots of choices for Halloween party invitations to suit everyone's tastes.  Available at the click of your mouse here

Perfect for creating the right front doorstep ambiance this Fright Night is this cluster of ideas from HomemadeSimple that will provide lots of visual, sensory, and audio thrills as party guests or trick-or-treaters arrive at your house. See the ideas here

Next, how about a clever Candy Corn popcorn holder idea from Celebrations.com?  This would be great as a party favor for Halloween parties at school, home, office, or anywhere else, as well as to give out to trick or treaters who stop by your house this season.  Could be used for popcorn, candy corn, dried fruit, nuts, or any other treat that fits inside.  Best of all, this is a craft that's easy enough for young kids to do.  Directions here

The Goth-est inspired Halloween Raven Wreath I've seen so far this year!  It's an easy and inexpensive craft to make either for your own door or as a gift for a friend.  This uses Glue Dots which are a real miracle craft material in my book.  Thanks to the fall post on Katydid and Kid's Blog, you can get directions to make this here

These kid-friendly Halloween Punch Tips for Kids' Parties from the Celebrations.com site are eerily wild.  One idea: put wiggly gummy worms in a blood-red glass of Kool Aid served in a clear glass and sit back and watch the party guests scream with fright.

Clever Salt Dough Halloween Shapes from AllFreeCrafts.com made from cookie cutters.  Directions for this kid craft and lots more for this holiday here

Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ambassadors of the Environment Presents Special Creatures of the Night Event for Halloween

     1st in a Multi-Part Series

    October 27 - October 30, 2010
    Creatures of the Night
    Evenings from 6 - 9 p.m.
    At the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel

COMMENT at bottom of this post: What's your fave Halloween costume from childhood?

My kids, hubbie and I are so excited to be coming to this family-friendly event at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, California later this month.  Though we are busy working on some really creative costumes for this already, I wanted to take some time off to share all the details with those of you who are lucky enough to be in Southern California later this month.

Families, kids and adults alike are invited to the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel for a fun event entitled Creatures of the Night presented by Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ambassadors of the Environment.   The lavish Halloween bash takes place nightly from 6 to 9 pm starting Wednesday, October 27 through Saturday, October 30.

Party guests will have the chance to participate in lots of activities designed around each of the five senses.  For example, for hearing, participants will be challenged to listen and identify animal noises and scary sounds.  Another game involves the sense of touch, requiring guests to stick their hands in a box to blindly guess what the object is.  They'll be more fun activities and surprises including the Shadow Game, Guess the Ghoulish Smell and the Candy Bar Taste Test, too.  And what would a Halloween Party be without a Costume Contest with a prize for the best outfit?  The all-inclusive cost for this lavish event is $65 per person.
