As some of you may already know, my daughter (Mini MommyBlogExpert, age 13) and I have a Friday morning ritual.   Every week we ride our bicycles to our neighborhood Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf store to buy Challah (braided bread for the Jewish Sabbath).  Both of us have a few favorite hot and cold drinks that we can get there year-round, but we also love it when new seasonal flavor coffee and tea drink are introduced.

This afternoon you'll find me and all my kids taking advantage of Coffee Bean's full-size 12 ounce drink giveaway to introduce their newest flavors.  In fact, you're invited stop by your local CB&TL, too, as they're giving away your choice of Scottish Breakfast Tea Latte, English Breakfast Tea Latte, or Vanilla Latte specialty drinks.  But, hurry.  This offer is available today only, Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m.

To find the nearest store and for more information about this event, visit Coffee Bean's website.

Please leave a comment below this post:  I think these drinks all sound delicious.  Which flavor do you like the best?

A Mommy Blogger's 5 Secrets to Posting Every Day in an Hour or Less

Me & Hubbie with our lives and hands literally full of 4 children in diapers at the same time, 1998
These kids are all teens now, but life has only gotten busier for us all

Virtually all moms who blog have children.  This means not only that we seem to be constantly busy with our families, but also that there is the chronic potential for distractions when we are striving to be successful mommy bloggers who post daily.

Whether you are a newbie mommy blogger or a seasoned one, you will be encouraged to know that if you follow some simple guidelines – and are willing to invest just about an hour per day – you’ll find yourself easily meeting that golden goal of a post a day.

Keep a running list of ideas for posts.  Writer’s block caused by the lack of ideas is the single most common reason why moms who blog can’t seem to write a post every day.  So, to combat this stumbling block, always carry a notebook with you where you can jot down blog post ideas as they come to you.  That way you’ll always have an assortment of topics to choose from waiting for you when you sit down to write instead of staring at a blank screen without any inspiration.

Get in the habit of creating your daily post as early in the day as possible.  If you can at least get started writing before the kids get up, that’s great.  But if you’re like me, that’s not realistic.  My kids are teens and they are up way before I am and we are currently home schooling them all so I spend the first hour and a half of every day making sure that they’re doing everything they are supposed to and that I’m available to help out when needed. The key is to write as soon in the day as is feasibly possible for your unique lifestyle.  If it makes sense to you, you might even block out a regular hour each day when you plan to do nothing but write -- baring any family emergencies.

Place writing for your blog at the top of your to do list of work-related tasks.  Nothing can be more distracting and time consuming than reading and responding to emails, tweeting on Twitter, or spending time on Facebook or other social media networks when you are also trying to write your daily post. So, I’ve found what works for me is that I discipline myself to write my blogpost of the day first. Otherwise, if I allow myself to fall into the trap of doing any or all these other things before I even start blogging, it will be late in the day when I’m feeling physically and emotionally drained and again have kids who need me that prevents me from writing that day at all.

Set up a system that works for you to manage priority posts that are tied to specific deadlines.  For example, I use a dry erase board to track all the due dates for the various social media consulting projects and regular monthly guest posts I write for other blogs. Also, included on this grid are various holiday posts I’ve planned as well as the product reviews and other posts I have lined up that have drop deadlines. Having things right there in front of me on a board posted above my desk I can see at a glance what needs to be done today. A grid that you set up on your computer in Excel might work equally well to keep you organized. The choice is yours. Just be sure the system you decide to use suits your work style.

Reflections in a puddle on a rainy California day, 2011

Stockpile some posts for rainy days.  Let’s face it, even with all these honorable intentions, there are going to be days when you’re just not going to be able to blog.  But, if you have at least three non-deadline anytime blogposts saved ready to go – as well as at least three more in various stages of drafts -- you’ll never have a day when you don’t post a story.  While we’re on the subject, be sure to take advantage of the scheduling functions that both Blogger and Wordpress offer for those days when you know ahead of time that you won’t be working – such as on weekends, vacations, and when traveling on business.

As you can see, cranking out a daily post need not be unrealistic or stressful.  Rather, with a little effort, some structure in the way you work, and an hour or less per day that you’ve carved out for writing, you can be posting each and every day of the year.

Now it’s your turn. How often are you posting now? What ways do you use to get new posts up on your own blog while also meeting the demands of raising a family?

Jane Fonda's NEW Workout Series Launches Dec 26th at Target & GIVEAWAY

Don't miss MommyBlogExpert's Jane Fonda's Workout Equipment Giveaway.  Details at the end of this post.  Contest ends 1/31/2011

Jane Fonda, the Oscar-winning actress who single handedly set off the aerobics craze in the 1980s just turned 73 and is a grandmother several times over.  But she's still an inspiration to former female students like me.  She is also the force behind a new generation of trainers she has partnered with to relaunch the Jane Fonda's Workout brand with a contemporary line of new exercise products and related DVDs.

Published by Simon & Schuster, March 1984

Any one else who was into aerobics during that era: remember the big hair, crazy leotards, tights, and leg warmers we all used to wear while exercise dancing to Saturday Night Fever at places like the Sports Connection in West Hollywood?

Thank goodness for the yoga pants and crop tanks from Tyoga and Lululemon that the workout crowd wears today.  Those are way cooler and more practical than those ridiculous get ups we wore in the 80s, for sure.

I may be dating myself here, but shortly before the book you see pictured above first came out, I met Jane for the first time when she was leading an aerobics class I was taking at her original Jane Fonda's Workout Studio on Robertson Boulevard in Beverly Hills in the early 80s.

To reconnect with Jane again almost 30 years later was such a thrill as well as was the opportunity to introduce my teen daughters to her at the intimate launch party her company hosted at trendy The Standard Hotel on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood in early December.  For all those decades now past and the recent removal of a small breast cancer tumor, she looks great having maintained her petite proportions and still appears younger and more energetic than her actual age when you meet her up close.

The party at poolside was healthy and energetic down to the last detail thanks to a wide variety of sponsors. Boku served up samples of their tasty protein smoothies and Boku Bars.  There were also heavenly drinks from Sambazon in a variety of Acai blends along with scrumptious vegan Acai sorbet with granola and organic fresh bananas.  That's not even to mention all the fresh fruit and vegetables, fat free chips with guacamole and salsa that were served.  All this, while a masseuse from A Comfortable Place  stood waiting at her massage table to give guests a relaxation treatment.

Now let me tell you about the goody bags that were stuffed to overflowing starting with a pink Nike backpack perfect for taking to the gym -- the men got a charcoal gray black one.  I'm not sure what the men received, but inside the lady's bag were full size packages of Intensive Nightly Repair Serum, Green Tea Balancing Cleansing Bar, and Revitalizing Concentrate capsules all from Pomega5.  As if that wasn't enough there was the cutest "Unwrap Your Super Powers!" tote bag inside from Lululemon Athletica that would be great to use as either a lunch bag or for carrying shoes.

Jane, as she admitted in her short presentation to those of us friends and press in attendance that evening, knows her limits when it comes to growing older.  So she took this opportunity to graciously introduce and showcase the next generation of amazing young female trainers who she hand-picked herself.

During the party we were also treated to an opportunity no one else may ever be able to experience again -- to see all of the trainers in Jane's newest DVDs together doing a montage workout demonstration live for the audience.

Each trainer is featured on one of the three new Jane Fonda's Workout branded DVDs that rolled out -- along with seven hand-held exercise products -- nationwide on December 26 at Target stores.  The three DVDs are also available online at Jane Fonda's Workout.

“I am thrilled to be able to bring an updated version of Jane Fonda’s Workout to the next generation,” says Fonda. “It’s important for people to maintain a healthy lifestyle which is one of the reasons that I have been and will continue to be very involved as the WORKOUT brand evolves.”

Jane Fonda had so much more energy when she was the age I am now.  Let's hope that I have at least a fraction of the spark she does today when I'm 73.
