Yesterday was Yom Ha'tzmaut, Israel's Independence Day. People celebrated this country's 65th birthday around the world in a variety of ways -- from taking a dip in the therapeutic waters of the Dead Sea to singing and folk dancing to eating falafel, a regional Middle Eastern dish staple consisting of golden fried chick pea balls, hummus and delectable salads stuffed inside pita pocket bread.

DVD Blu-ray with Eco Friendly Message

When last I wrote about this home entertainment company it was to showcase the live children's action feature My Lucky Elephant. Arc Entertainment is at it again, this time kids will be charmed with Delhi Safari - A Tale of Adventure (2012), the family movie that is being released today for home viewing on DVD and Blu-ray. This absolutely adorable animated feature film is the tale of a very random bunch of characters: a leopard cub and his mother, a peace-loving bear, a monkey who's middle name spells trouble, and a sassy parrot that will say exactly what's on his mind.

You'll have to watch this movie in its entirety to find out what happens when this eclectic group of creatures treks out of the jungle and into a big city full of humans to protest the destruction of their natural habitat.

This is indeed a picture for children that your whole family will enjoy watching together. It is both funny, endearing and entertaining in addition to carrying an important message about protecting the environment which is especially timely as Earth Day on April 22 is just around the corner. 

Voicing this movie's band of colorful characters is an all-star cast including Jason Alexander (best known as George Costanza on the TV show Seinfeld), Carey Elwes (Days of Thunder), Brad Garrett (Stuart Litte 2, Finding Nemo), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future trilogy), Jane Lynch (Best in Show, Glee) and Vanessa Williams (recorded the Oscar winning song "Color of the Wind" for the Disney blockbuster movie Pocahontas.

As it says on the back of box these animals and their loud mouthed bird friend will not allow themselves or their home to be "fur-gotten."  What could be a better way during Earth Month to teach kids that people -- not animals -- are the ones responsible for protecting all the nature that lives around us?

The Intouchables DVD Blu-ray Sony Release

Sony has released the French foreign film The Intouchables on DVD and Blu-ray for home viewing. This movie, based on a true story, is about an unlikely friendship that develops between two men: an eccentric paraplegic millionaire and his caregiver, an ex-con who grew up in the projects.

Having watched this for review, I can tell you it's a moving picture worth adding to your own watch list if you are as big a fan of dramatic foreign films as I am. The Intouchables, from The Weinstein Company, is in French with English and Spanish subtitles and stars two great actors: Francois Cluzet and Omar Sy. 

Nominated for the 2013 Golden Globe Best Foreign Language Film, you'll probably enjoy the scenes of the two characters paragliding in the Alps and speeding through the narrow streets of Paris in a Maserati sports car as much as I have.
