Time is running out -- BlogHer 2014 is coming up quickly, scheduled for July 24-25 in San Jose, California. If you haven't already done so, book your hotel room now for the conference. According to the latest #BlogHer14 newsletter you probably shouldn't procrastinate about making your reservations any longer because all hotels are almost sold out.

I can't wait to see what kind of official special events there will be in San Jose. In Chicago BlogHer 2013 partnered with La-Z-Boy to host an event where models wore these colorful snazy suits you see pictured above made from the home furnishing brand's upholstery fabrics. My roommate WellConnectedMom AKA Lori Cunningham and I took a break from networking and getting manicures to pose for this memorable photo op with several of the company's representatives.

The year before was also a blast.  In 2012, when the conference was in New York, there was a fashion show featuring women bloggers as the models. I have to say, though, that all the adorable dogs in costumes from PetSmart that were also part of the show made this one of my favorite official events at that conference.

Summer is finally here. You’re thinking to yourself, “Now I can catch up on all those movies I wanted to watch!” But now’s not the time to look back at those recent releases you missed. Instead, it's time to look forward. If you’re in the mood for the ultimate definition of an action movie -- packed with guns, explosions, dinosaurs, Mark Wahlberg, more guns, and even more explosions -- drop everything and brace yourself for Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Coming to theaters June 27, this high energy movie is the start of a second trilogy in the Transformers series. Directed by none other than Michael Bay, you can expect a harbinger of the most explosive, combustible, and diabolically volatile special effects ever seen on the big screen.

Here's a sneak peek at what's in store when the movie opens this weekend...

This fourth Transformers movie installment takes place soon after the third, where humanity is still recovering from the devastating hellfire brought down upon them by the Decepticons in Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011). They, along with the Autobots, are nowhere to be found, and it seems that humanity no longer has a need for their protection as they’ve tapped into the advanced technology of those mecha-aliens themselves… That is until a new enemy arises that threatens to annihilate all life on Earth, the planet included.

I’ve seen all the other Transformers movies, and to be totally honest, nothing is more exhilarating than watching a slo-mo of a sweet sports car flipping in mid-air and landing in the shape of a gargantuan war-machine, packed with machine guns and missiles alike. The sensation never gets old and I expect no less from this next episode in one of the most action-packed movies of the year.

So, buy some popcorn, take a seat, and be sure to check your heart-rate because this feature film is going to leave your blood pumping.

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Li Bingbing, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, T.J. Miller, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor and Titus Welliver with Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime. From Paramount Pictures, opening in theaters and IMAX theaters nationwide on Friday, June 27, 2014. White House Summit on Working Families LIVE Today 9 a.m. ET from Washington DC

Family

Ever since I was invited to spend the day at the White House, I've been inspired to share with readers all about the family focused communications MommyBlogExpert often receives from the Oval Office and other government agencies and officials in Washington D.C.  Several weeks ago you may recall this MBE post on a White House Father's Day message acknowledging how much harder today's fathers work outside and inside the home than previous generations.

A few pictures I took during my visit to the White House in December...

Last night a new email from Washington arrived in my mailbox. This latest White House message states boldly that it's not the Leave it to Beaver 1960s anymore. I couldn't agree with that more, having been raised as a black and white TV watching Baby Boomer. Yet in 2014 even though we now live in a Modern Family society, most moms and dads still aren't getting access to paid leave or flexible work options that would be beneficial to their family and home lives.

Consider the sobering statistics. In 63% of today's families with children both parents work (approximately 3 out of 5 families). Another major reality: 32% of families with children are single-parent households. And, speaking of solo parents, 6 in 10 women are now the sole breadwinners for their families. The impact of all this on the present status of the American working family is obviously huge.

The time is now to start changing all that simply because we owe it to our kids, who collectively represent the future of America. That's what this summit is all about.

Among issues that the summit will address are things like workplace flexibility, equal pay regardless of gender, workplace discrimination, worker retention and promotion, and childcare and early child education.

You're invited to join me in watching The White House Summit on Working Families LIVE this morning on your computer or smartphone wherever you may be. The online event starts at 9 a.m. Eastern Time so I'll be up bright and early at 6 a.m. here in California.
