Editor's Note: Usually for Norma it's about blogging and taking care of her hubbie and family. But last Saturday it was all about the babe, babying herself and receiving some well-deserved pampering while on the job reporting for MBE from the Blogger Babes #Balance2015 event.

The weather was awesome for the Blogger Babes #Balance2015 spa day which was hosted at the private home of celebrity dentist Dr. Sherri Worth in Newport Beach, California. As a matter of fact, all of us present kept commenting on the gorgeous weather and the simply breathtaking Pacific Ocean view location. Also worth noting: the hostess, Heidi Nazarudin of Blogger Babes, was impeccably cordial to everyone there.

For a Good Cause

The first table and the one that attracted the most attendee attention was Compassion Brands which has the primarily goal of helping to stop bullying. Here the main talk among bloggers at the party while looking at the company's products and one of a kind jewelry was about the unfortunate reality that we all know someone who has been affected or have been victims of bullying at some point in our lives. Compassions Brand is beyond generous, donating 100% of the proceeds from every item they sell to the anti bullying movement.

Skincare & Fitness

KO'AN Center, a luxury medical spa, and their skin experts were there to pamper each and every one with a complimentary skin consult and facials. Also on hand was Susan Wilhite representing SmartFit Bands who answered guests questions on how smart fitness bands can become an important gadget to athletics of every ability level.

Then there was Blushington, the makeup & beauty lounge that has locations in West Hollywood and Newport Beach, California, who sent their best makeup artists to beautify every guest with a makeover. It would be an understatement to say that every blogger there truly enjoyed getting their makeup done after their facials. Other beauty and fitness services beckoning bloggers included The Nail Truck, Level Naturals, Core Natural Yoga, and more. Talk about feeling pampered!

Healthy Bites & Drinks

And what would a blogging event be without really good food? Flown in just for the event was Nathan Corn founder of Flex Pro Meals who prepared delicious finger food and appetizers. Everything he served was healthy and nutritiously crafted. Coco Bakes and Renew Juicery provided wonderful sweets and drinks to compliment Chef Corn's dishes.

In summary this event was very intimate, not crowded at all, everyone seemed to truly enjoy themselves and of course it was very social. So, I guess in the end I can honestly say that we bloggers work hard but we play hard and enjoy life, too.

I'm looking forward to screening the comedy Helicopter Mom as well as talking to female director Salome Breziner tonight in Beverly Hills. This movie about a mother who takes it upon herself to out her son as being gay -- for her own reasons -- when he's not sure if he actually is or isn't is scheduled for release in select theaters and On Demand on April 24th.

Stay tuned for MBE's upcoming movie review, meanwhile have a laugh at this entertaining behind the scenes clip

For more on this film, visit the official Helicopter Mom site as well as follow the movie on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

FTC Disclosure: My daughter and I were invited to a private screening and reception party in advance of the big screen release of Helicopter Mom. See complete FTC Disclosure information that appears at the bottom of MommyBlogExpert's home page and at the bottom of every individual post on this blog, including this one.

How to Talk to Kids About Drinking Advice MADD Provides Parents Free #PowerTalk21 Guide

Free Manual to Talk to Kids About Drinking
It's a common misperception that abuse of illegal drugs like marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine, heroine, and others are the main substance usage issue with which parents of adolescents must contend. What I was surprised to learn, and you probably will too, is that alcohol is actually the number one drug of choice for youth and underage drinking takes more lives than all other illicit drugs combined.

April 21st is #PowerTalk21 Day

Since April is Alcohol Awareness Month there's no better time than now to have the talk with your children about the dangers and consequences of underage drinking as well as drunk driving for those kids of driving age. Plus tomorrow, April 21st is #PowerTalk21, the annual day for parents to start talking with their children about alcohol.

A MADD and Nationwide Survey shows that one-third of parents believe the ages they should start talking with their children about alcohol are 14-18, in high school. But, research shows compelling statistics that prove otherwise and are enough to get every mom and dad on board
  • Kids start weighing the pros and cons of underage drinking as early as age 8
  • One in four middle school students have tried alcohol by the end of 8th grade
  • Parents remain the biggest influence on their teens not to drink, even more so than their teens’ friends
  • Teens are 80 percent less likely to drink if parents deliver a clear no alcohol before 21 message
The bottom line is no one needs to convince you that underage drinking is irresponsible and that drunk driving kills because it's an unfortunate reality that a person in the U.S. is killed by a drunk driver every 52 minutes. In fact, whether or not you're a parent yourself, I bet you are aware of at least one teen drunk driving incident in your community where serious injury or death resulted. The good news is that drunk driving deaths are 100% preventable and Mother's Against Drunk Driving MADD is here to help us all.
