Disney on Ice Treasure Trove Review Family Entertainment Bridging the Generations

Family Entertainment

Covering any event for MommyBlogExpert is always fun. But, when I receive an invite to cover another Disney event, buzz, excitement, thrills and happy faces from grownups and kids are always guaranteed! For my latest assignment, I brought along my family to attend opening night of the Disney on Ice presents Treasure Trove ice skating show at the Long Beach Arena in Southern California just an hour from metro Los Angeles.

From the moment we arrived, concession stand after concession stand filled with bright and colorful gizmos and treats stopped us in our tracks. With so much to do before the show started, it was hard to decide, even for me. The snow cone cups filled with sugary syrup were simply irresistible. So was the cotton candy, popcorn and did I mention all the cool Disney memorabilia. Well I myself, wanted it ALL.

The performance had not even started but holding something sweet and cool put a smile on the young and not so young crowd. After all, who can disagree that when it comes to Disney fun, age simply does not matter?

The show delivered as it promised, the ice ring looked crispy white. Only a few minutes after sitting down, the lights went out and the crowd knew exactly what that meant -- the applause roared as Mickey and Minnie Mouse glided out along with side kicks Goofy and Donald.

Imagine the crowd's delight as so many different major, historical and famous Disney films were brought to life on the ice by the talented cast of performers, ice skaters, and singers. Talk about chills of happiness and the fond memories I as an adult felt when Lion King, one of my all-time favorites, played.

I'll never forget as I sat in the theater watching that movie almost 21 years ago and heard the delight and laughter of all the children in the theater. In fact, the reason Lion King is so special to me is that it was at that moment I knew I wanted to become a mother, and shortly there after conceived my eldest child.

I'm guessing there were plenty of other adults who also felt a deep personal connection to a particular Disney movie. Whether it was Lion King, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Pocahontas, Toy Story, Aladdin or Tangled, without a doubt each was a beautifully packaged entertainment treasure delivering great joy to everyone present.

How wonderful to think. On that magical night all these songs, lyrics, stage, makeup, wardrobe, music and performers created new epic memories bridging the generations.

Mothers Day Movie Bonds Moms & Daughters via The Moms Event w/ Director Garry Marshall

Movies

Mothers and daughters (age 13 and up) are going to want to see and bond over the new Mother's Day movie which is now in theaters nationwide starring Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson, and Jason Sudeikis.

Directed by Garry Marshall in the same engaging style he presented the hit films Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve, not only does this picture reveal all kinds of mother-daughter relationships. It also touches upon the full gamut of family structures -- children in and out of wedlock, adoption, and kids dealing with the loss of a parent or divorce -- as well  as underscoring the ideas there isn't one kind of mother and Mother's Day isn't just once a year, it's every day.

Thanks to The Moms and official sponsor FujiFilm instax, my 18 year-old daughter and I got to screen the movie at TCL Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood before the world premiere which I was also lucky to attend later that night.

The Moms event also included getting to check out the Fujifilm instax instant camera line and socializing with good friends like Jennifer Miyagishima of Real Mom of SFV who brought her mother along.

The comedy drama Mother's Day unfolds against the montage backdrop of a typical chaotic school day morning which moms will especially relate to, with Penny Marshall (Garry's sister) delivering a spot-on voice over narration of the harried life of a mother with young kids. Soon we meet happily divorced mom Sandy (Aniston) as well as Bradley (Sudeikis) who has been trying to parent his two motherless girls since losing their mom the year before.

Check out the official trailer...

As the movie progresses, the audience also encounters sisters Jesse (Hudson) and Gabi (Sarah Chalke), with everything going haywire when their mother shows up unannounced for a Mother's Day visit to find out one of them is married to a man of color, while the other is a lesbian with a partner. Not to be missed is the seemingly dark and shallow character Miranda (Roberts) who is focusing on her career rather than taking the motherhood route.

I don't want to ruin the ending for you. But, rest assured, surprise after surprise, you will be enchanted with many motherly moments throughout the entire film.

The screening especially for our The Moms group was followed by an up close and personal Q&A with the director along with actress Britt Robertson who plays Kristin in the film.

Marshall, who directed Julia Roberts in her breakout movie Pretty Woman way back in 1990, summed up his reasons for making Mother's Day well"I like to make movies for women, they are much more complex," he told our group.

Robertson meanwhile confided during our chat led by Melissa Gerstein of The Moms that she said yes to working on this film without even knowing the storyline simply because she knew Marshall would be directing.

Music

#DisneyAlice

As the May 27th release date for the Disney film Alice Through the Looking Glass draws near, I could not be more excited to share Just Like Fire, the brand new music video by P!nk from the movie.

As you'll see from watching and listening to this Alice Through the Looking Glass inspired music video masterpiece below, P!nk is definitely on fire. Wait till you see her sing in the opener for this video while performing aerial gymnastics upside down on silks. She's not only one of the most talented solo artists today, she's a great acrobatic athlete too.

Don't miss P!nk's equally electrifying performance in the official Alice Through the Looking Glass trailer.
