Summer is in full swing and warm sunshine is just calling our names -- reminding us all it's time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and PLAY, no matter how old or young. National Get Outdoors Day, celebrated earlier in June, included a series of events offering traditional and nontraditional outdoor activities across the nation, including free admission to any national park on that day for families to inspire them to explore and find a park or other natural space closer to home. Now, Discover the Forest is extending the fun and public awareness.
In the spirit of encouraging you and your kids -- as well as friends, family, and others -- to enjoy the outdoors this summer, this organization is inviting you to share your family fun with @DiscovertheForest on Instagram using the hashtag #ForestFotog. And to add to the excitement, they'll be posting creative forest photos and asking followers to replicate the photo with their family and participate using #Getoutdoors16.
DiscoverTheForest.org highlights urban forests and parks that people may not even realize are right around the corner. These “naturehoods” are just a short-drive away, making it easy for families to unplug from the daily routine and reconnect with nature. In our area, there are many public parks that offer a variety of free outdoor play equipment and playgrounds that will keep kids entertained for hours.
