A Luxury Online Shopping Experience 70% Savings

Shopping

Vente-Privee is a members-only online shopping destination that's free to join but that offers an exclusive country club like atmosphere to purchase luxury merchandise.  A partnership between subsidiaries of American Express and Vente-Privee, the site has relationships with over 1,200 premium international brands including many European designers. This makes it possible for them to pass on savings of up to 70% off of every day retail prices to members.

Products sold via the site span a wide range of categories from fashion to housewares to sporting goods to electronics, even luxury service providers such as a highly-regarded car service and others.

From the moment I first visited this site and signed up as a member I was drawn in by the beautifully animated home page with V-P's trademark bumblebee buzzing around a garden of bright pink peonies. This set the stage for a low-stress and relaxing luxe shopping adventure for me for sure.

Each brand's sale lasts for just a few days with a limited supply available so sometimes they sell out before the sale ends. Every luxury item is offered at unbelievably great savings, though, and free shipping is provided for purchases over $100 that are made on your American Express card.

As this post goes live here are just three examples of what is available on the site
  • GF Ferre Cognac Red Patent leather ankle strap pumps, $158 (retail $420)
  • L'Agence One Shoulder Dress, $78 (retail $432)
  • Valentino Rose Collection Round Watch with Diamonds, $2,275 (retail $7,550)

With styles, designers and deals like these
why not sign up for Vente-Privee now?

I know I can't wait to find out what designer sales events will be happening next and I eagerly look forward to every update I receive from Vente-Privee. If you like designer merchandise but don't want to have to pay full price I hope you'll join me as member.

Summer is a favorite time of year for me. Over the years I've enjoyed many July and August road trips criss crossing America both with my family when I was a child and now with my own family that includes hubbie plus two sons and two daughters.

The vintage and modern images illustrating this post capture just a small part of all the memories of the natural beauty I've personally experienced both inside National Parks and on the multitude of scenic byways and back roads that wind through the Lower 48 contiguous U.S. that I've traveled.

August may be just around the corner but there's still plenty of summertime left for you to do some road tripping of your own to witness nature for yourself and at the same time in the process enter to win a brand new vehicle that is gentler on the environment.

That's right. By joining Exit the Highway, which is a project of TogetherGreen a joint green initiative of Toyota and the National Audubon Society you'll be automatically entered to win a new 2012 Prius v, just like the one I test drove, loved, and reviewed on Mommy Blog Expert some months ago.

Participating in Exit the Highway and entering to win a Prius v is an easy and fun
  • Take The Pledge to exit the highway this summer and discover nature and the great outdoors and you will be entered to win the new car.
  • Download one of the Exit the Highway itineraries in your area to learn about the ways TogetherGreen is working on local conservation projects to protect and in some cases rebuild many types of animal habitats and wildlife populations.
  • Share your nature visit experiences on the road and what you observe by uploading photos to your the Exit the Highway page you set up when you took The Pledge. You're also encouraged to share your images via Twitter, Facebook and/or Instagram. Microsoft Windows Style Makeover - Try out for a Leading Role in the Brand's Big BlogHer 2012 Event

Makeover

I'd like to preface this post by saying I admire all of the other female bloggers in the wings that are trying out for the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover sweepstakes. Among you are some of the smartest, most creative and talented women and moms I know in the business. Truly I'm humbled to be among competitors like you all. Best of luck to everyone with a wish that your ultimate style dreams come true!

Now without further adieu, my post entry...

The Prologue
In As You Like It by William Shakespeare, "All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts."

That play's passage may have first been uttered between 1599 and the early 1600s, but I think it still rings true today if you interpret as I do the reference to "man" to extend to woman as well. In a nutshell this piece of classic literature pretty much sums up my perspective on BlogHer 2012 as well as my roles in life professionally as a blogger and personally as a mom, wife, daughter, and friend.

At the upcoming conference whether one has the lead role, a supporting part or working as a background actress each woman attending is an integral member of the cast of characters. Based on all the current buzz on Twitter and Facebook I'd say just about everyone wants to make a grand entrance next weekend.  As a blogger myself I'm no exception. In between my crazy busy life as a mom of four -- including triplets that were born within a year and who once were all in diapers at the same time -- it seems for sure that I've been rehearsing for this all-important part ever since the last big event 12 months ago.

With opening night just a week away, it's almost time for the big performance event and I feel like I'm ready to shine on the stage. I know my lines, I have my flight and hotel booked, and I've got my schedule organized.  Homemade meals have been cooked for my family and already are tucked into the freezer so my hubbie and kids won't starve while I'm away. And, believe it or not, I'm finally caught up on all the laundry a family of six that includes four teens produces. Even my bags are all packed and standing by the door. Oh, how I can't wait to get to New York to connect with brands and bloggers, rekindling old relationships while building new, long-lasting ones.

Everything appears to be going great. Then I wake up from this daydream. Uh-oh. I've just realized there's a problem, a very big one at that. The show's makeup artists and costume designers are no where to be found and I really need help with my head to toe look so I can make a splash on the BlogHer red carpet. Right now I may be just an understudy for one of leading characters but I sure could use the help of the Windows Makeover stylist team to have a crack at a chance to step into the spotlight with four other leading ladies come August 3 when the winners will be announced.

What's My Style?
From an artistic perspective I think I'm a blank canvas ready to be painted. Or rather to keep within the theme of this post, I'm a modern-day Shakespeare masterpiece waiting to be written. A story that makes the most of my body type taking into account my long arms and legs and 5'9" average frame.

Me modeling a symmetrical coat by British Designer Isabella Oliver
With that said if I had to pin my type on Pinterest and via the various images I've picked to illustrate this post entry, I'd say I'm a fun-loving woman who revels in mixing things up, blending this season's classic and feminine styles with things already in my closet accented by vintage finds and an artistic thread that runs through everything, pulling it all together.

I'm also admittedly a tech geek both in my work and family lives so my look will of course not be complete without the latest tech gear and gadgets which I hope include a brand new Windows 7 PC with Windows 8 upgrade offer. If I'm privileged to be selected as a winner not only will I wear this trendy laptop to accessorize my makeover and new wardrobe. I'll also use it while working as a blogger both in my home office and on the road when traveling.

This Microsoft technological wonder would certainly be a G-d send to help manage our busy family home life and the community service projects I volunteer for, too. That's not even to mention that this will make it possible for my entire family to enjoy some time together tapping into all its entertainment capabilities. And, how could I forget especially since the workers just cut the power off accidentally this morning while I was trying to finish writing? I can't think of a more awesome tool than this to assist me with the major kids bathroom renovation that's going on in the next room as I type out this post!

The Wrap Up
At 55 I'm probably the oldest contestant in this contest. Then again, I'm likely also to be the only gal who can make the dubious claim to have started my career right around the time when the first PC came out and when Microsoft, the company, was just beginning to bloom. What a privilege it has been to have lived through that era and to still be alive today and to see how far technology has advanced during my lifetime.

Personality wise I'm at ease as a mother, wife and mommy blogger, leading an equally active and introspective lifestyle. I'm a Renaissance woman, passionate about everything I do from writing Mommy Blog Expert to skiing in winter and playing tennis in summer to traveling domestically and abroad to tending my organic garden, all while striving to fit a quality family lifestyle and the nurturing of deep friendships into the formula.

Age for me is an asset rather than a liability. I actually only feel like I'm in my late 30s or early 40s and have the energy to match which is one reason why I find BlogHer so invigorating. But, at the same time, I definitely am not trying to directly compete with my two darling 15 year-old daughters who are budding drama queens and fashionistas either in overall attitude or style.

I wish I could say that my present wardrobe evokes that fashion and tech style vibe, but to be honest neither does. Yet. That in fact is why I'm hoping to be selected for a makeover at BlogHer courtesy of the Microsoft Windows brand.

It's almost last curtain call now and I wish everyone else who also wants to be there when the curtain goes up and the winners are revealed to as they say in show business, "Break a leg."

The suspense is building and the hush of the crowd is ironically almost deafening. Rest assured, though, that BlogHer will be here very soon and the Final Five will be unveiled. If you ask me that day can't come soon enough.

As for me, to quote the opening line of Hamlet, another Shakespeare play, "To be or not to be? That is the question."

In writing this post, I'm entering the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover sweepstakes for a chance to win a head to toe makeover!

FTC Disclosure: I did not receive payment for this post. As explained in the content above I have written this post as my entry into the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover sweepstakes. See detailed FTC disclosure at the bottom of this and every post more details.

How to Tell When It's a Week till the BlogHer 2012 New York Women & Moms Blogging Conference

BlogHer

Ever really thought about it? How can you tell when BlogHer is just a week away?

Okay. I'm just going to say it. All this excitement about BlogHer next weekend is -- for lack of a better word -- exciting. Actually it's also lots of other descriptions that start with the letter "E." Excellent, Exhilarating, Energizing, Educational, Eye-Opening and Epic. Oh yeah, and did I mention? Pretty darned Exhausting, too.

A 2011 giant soap carving, can't wait to see what brands have in store this year
Yes, right now many of us attending are working even longer hours than usual to get ready for the most important conference of the year -- the big one we have been waiting for since the last one ended 12 months ago. Among other things, finalizing schedules that fit together like what seems like a 5,000 piece jigsaw puzzle amid all the frenetic energy it might be a good time for each of us to seek out some diversionary fun and blow off a little steam.

That's why I wrote this therapeutic post for us women bloggers who will be descending on New York City beginning early this coming week, building to a crescendo when BlogHer 2012 officially begins with Night at The Expo on Thursday evening running through Sunday morning August 5.

Now let's get started with an entertaining fill-in-the-blank word game to take your mind off things for a little bit. You'll like this, really, so stop what you're doing right now and have fun for 15 minutes. To inspire you, I've included a handful of my own fill in the blank answers to the question, "How do you know that BlogHer is almost here?"

I know that BlogHer is almost here when...
  • My kids are eating breakfast cereal every night for dinner.
  • The laundry pile starts resembling The Matterhorn at Disneyland.
  • Our dog starts having accidents in the house because Mom forgets to walk him.
  • I check Twitter, Facebook and email even before saying good morning DH.
  • Organizing my BlogHer schedule has taken on a life of its own, 24/7 task.
You get the idea. Now it's your turn to have at it. Leave a comment below this post to add all your own ideas on  completing this sentence. All of us going to BlogHer have our own twist on this one, so fire away, no holds barred. We can all laugh at ourselves together and release some tension! Just keep it clean ideally with G-rated comments, but no lower than PG-13 thoughts, since Mommy Blog Expert is a family-friendly blog.

FTC Disclosure: I disclose that I'm attending BlogHer with 4,449 other women bloggers. Opinions here are my own and I did not receive payment for this post. The largest and most important women's and mom bloggers conference of the year doesn't officially start until next weekend on the evening of August 3. Already in my suitcase is the huge clear plastic toiletry bag that held all these products. This is not only for the toothpaste and allergy pills I'm bringing, it's the perfect size for storing all the face, hair and body basics I'll need to feel and look my best when connecting with brands and other bloggers.

Meanwhile I've stashed some of the new healthy fuel foods that I can't wait to try in my carry on because I know this will definitely be whirlwind trip and I will be eating on the run. BTW since my teens are at the stage where they will eat just about anything they find on sight, LOL, I tucked these in the bottom of my bag since I wouldn't want them to get a hold of these before I even leave for New York.

The Iconic NY Skyline as seen from the Midtown Bridge
Thanks to these brands and their PR agency Hunter Public Relations I think I'll be well-equipped to take on the City and navigate BlogHer. If you will be attending the conference and still need help planning your trip to the Big Apple be sure to take a look at Hunter PR's  Big Apple trip planning guide curated by the company's local NYC staff.

Among the Hunter Public Relations clients that will be showing their consumer products to bloggers attending BlogHer are Church & Dwight, makers of Arm & Hammer Oral Care, Orajel and Spinbrush; Dole;  and Oasis Consumer Healthcare.

I look forward to sharing more with BlogHer 12 attendees and MBE's general readership about all the new consumer products and services I learn about both before and during the conference.
