2nd Post in MBE's White House Holiday Series

Here's our #WHHoliday Social  group photo. This image, taken in the White House private theater where the President, family and friends go when they want to take in a movie, was snapped at the end of our informative and fun-filled day at the White House on Monday, December 16.

The Instagram image above, provided by the Washington Instagram Community, includes those of us social media mavens invited to attend. That's me sitting on the far left in black, red, white and blue. Posing with us in the White House Movie Theater are Kasie Coccaro (standing back row, 2nd from right) from The White House social media team who organized this event. Also shown with the group is Laura Dowling (sitting front row, 2nd from right), Chief Floral Designer, The White House, along with her talented crafting assistants.

During the session Laura shared with us her first-hand behind-the-scenes story of decorating the White House this year for the holidays and showed us some of her original creative concepts. The attention to the finest of details was absolutely amazing and requires many hours of volunteers working around the clock to pull it all off.

Planning begins for the next year's holiday season, I was surprised to learn, even before the the current one ends. She works very closely with the First Lady to establish and carry through a new theme annually. I just love Gather Around, the 2013 holiday theme chosen by Mrs. Obama, which resulted in some really beautiful, yet homey decor.

In addition to speaking, Laura -- who runs the wedding and design firm Events in the City -- led those of us privileged to be there in a special hands-on workshop. What fun it was to recreate the Bo Ho Ho Boutinere and Corsage, Laura's original design, that the Bo and Sunny dog sculptures are wearing in the East Garden Room this holiday season.
