Disney Alice Through the Looking Glass Opens Memorial Weekend

It goes without saying fans of Johnny Depp are in for a real treat and will not be disappointed. In his latest big screen project, the award-winning actor brilliantly portrays the kooky and eccentric Mad Hatter as expected in Disney's Alice Through the Looking Glass which opened nationwide today. However, it is another well-known artist, British-Israeli actor/comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, listed last among the big stars in the credits who is the one that really floods the entire film with light, delivering an electrifying performance in the new, even more abstract and complicated character of Time Himself.

The sequel adventure to the fantasy movie Alice in Wonderland (2010), based on the classic stories of Lewis Carroll, features an assortment of memorable personalities, stunning settings and amazing costumes. And of course lots of CGI, action and Disney magic, too.

In the new movie, which I screened a few days ago at the historic El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, California prior to the release, Alice returns to the wild and crazy world of Wonderland. Her mission, as she travels back in time, is to try and help save the saddened Mad Hatter who has lost his zest for living.

Not far into the movie the audience has an unforgettable first meeting with Cohen's character, Time. From then on, his presence looms large, continuing to be seen and experienced at almost every turn as the fast-paced script moves forward.

Cohen carries the plot throughout. Whether he's interacting with Depp or any of the other main characters Mia Wasikowska (Alice), Anne Hathaway (Mirana), Matt Lucas (voice of the Tweedles), Helena Bonham Carter (Iracebeth) or Rhys Ifans (Zanik Hightopp). In a much different role than he is accustomed to playing, Cohen sets the tone for the entire picture under the apt direction and vision of James Bobin who draws his new creative inspiration from Tim Burton creator of the original whimsical world of Underland.

Long story short is Cohen fans will be blown away by his persona this time around. Want to see Sacha Baron Cohen acting in character as never before? If you are looking to see an exciting and entertaining movie over Memorial Day Weekend, this just might be it.

The adventure family fantasy Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass is rated PG. Presented in Digital 3D™, Real D 3D and IMAX® 3D, the movie opens today in U.S. theaters nationwide.
