Things My Mother Taught Me Passed on to My Kids - Summer Tips to Stay Hydrated

Good Health

Mom’s Pure Words of Wisdom #MomsWisdom

Generation to generation, mothers always seem to know best -- passing on their pearls of wisdom to sons and daughters who in turn pass those valuable messages on to their own offspring.  Truly, no matter what the culture or native tongue, there seems to be no area where Mom is more expert than in teaching her children about taking care of their physical health, especially exercise, good nutrition and most important of all -- keeping the body fully hydrated during summer. Latching on to those pearls of wisdom, Nestlé® Pure Life® has launched the Hydration Movement on their Facebook Page.

I can still hear my own mommy telling me again and again now to drink a lot of water when it's hot outside. In fact she used to say she wished we had an outside water fountain in our backyard so us kids wouldn't drink directly from the garden hose!  Now that I'm a big girl with a family of four children of my own, I've passed that reminder on which you can't tell your kids enough.

"Make sure you drink enough water," my mother used to say when I was little. I'm guessing that your own mother may have said the same thing to you. I'll also surmise that you and me both are telling the same thing to our own families now.

H2O is indeed the source of all life -- the human body is made up of about 60% water and water is essential for the body to function. In fact, people can go a whole lot longer without food than without water before seeing the worst side effects.

The ultimate cocktail: Ice Water, MommyBlogExpert.com
Since you only need to lose 1-2 percent of your body water before dehydration starts to set in, it is critical that everyone from newborns to kids to middle age moms and dads to the oldest grandparents drink enough water. No time is this more important than now as we head into the hottest days of the year when many of us tend to spend a lot more time outdoors, even in the heat and sun.

Summer Tips to Stay Hydrated

  • Remember to drink even when you're not thirsty
  • Consume more water when you're exercising or simly sweating from the heat
  • Drink 9 cups (for women) and 13 cups (for men) of water daily
  • For Kids: Drink 4 cups (ages 1-3), 5 cups (ages 4-8), 7-8 cups (ages 9-13)
  • Don't Forget: Coffee, tea, soda or anything else isn't a substitute for water
  • Enjoying ice cold water actually burns fat calories
I've shared my story because I value the many things my mom taught me and I think they're worth repeating. In its most perfect form, wisdom is best when shared.

The Dragon Pearl Kids Movie Review Now on VOD View on Demand, DVD and Blu-ray

Movies

What happens when two kids -- a boy and a girl from two different cultures who think they're destined for a boring vacation -- meet up with each other on a trip to an archaeology dig in China with each of their parents? That's the premise of The Dragon Pearl (2011), a family adventure mystery just released on VOD View on Demand and DVD and Blu-ray exclusively available now at Walmart with broader availability on DVD/Blu-ray on August 20, 2013.
Viewers will quickly learn this film turns out to be anything but an unexciting ho-hum sojourn. From Ketchup Entertainment, this picture stars Irish actor Sam Neill who Jurassic Park fans will likely recognize. The girl (Ling) and boy (Josh) are played by Li Lin Jin and Louis Corbett, respectively.

As the adventure unfolds the two curious young teens find themselves in a mystical temple. According to an ancient legend this mythical Chinese dragon needs its life force, emanating by a sacred pearl hidden somewhere deep inside a dark and secret chamer. It's up to the youngsters, against the better judgement of their parents, to fight evil to find regain control over the magical pearl and then return it to who it really belongs to.

Watch this clip to see why this film is so enchanting and magical...

The Dragon Pearl has a run time of 94 minutes and is rated PG; in English with Closed Captions. Parental Guidance is suggested since this movie involves adventure adventure and perio that may not be suitable for younger children. Now on Blu-ray and DVD + Vudu, exclusively at Walmart instore and online for $14.96 (List price $26.99).  For more information visit Ketchup Entertainment.

Teenager Summer Bucket List Teen Tuesday Post by Rebecca Elspas

Teen Tuesday
by Rebecca Elspas, Teen Blogger

We all know that one day every student looks forward to, counts down, and cannot wait to happen. THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!! Mine, June 11th, was the best day ever, walking out of my crazy hard chemistry final screaming “I’m done! No more pencils no more books, no more teacher’s dirty looks!” (Creds to Alice Cooper).

Me celebrating school's out, MommyBlogExpert.com
I said my goodbyes and hit the road to an entire two months of freedom, waking up whenever, going wherever I want with my friends, and finally getting a chance to do stuff I’ve always wanted to. So I let my inner OCD choose how to organize my summer. (I’m not the most organized person normally).

Recalling the movie The Bucket List from 2007, I felt like it was such a good idea to make one, but for summer, that I got to work right away. Pinterest helped me here. I finally made a board in my empty Pinterest account, naming it Summer 2013 Bucket List. You can check it out here.

With things like shop at a flea market, make a rainbow cake, get super flexible, have a glitter fight, a campfire cookout, and hiking somewhere really far up, just to name a few, I am steadily repining more and more fun ideas. I actually am so determined to do all of them! Already got a couple down.

Crushed it.

Shoutout to Kim Kardashian’s newborn!
