The Autumnal Equinox, also known as fall, officially arrives next week on September 22nd at 10:29 pm EST, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. Already, the leaves are beginning their seasonal shows of red, orange and yellow splendor in parts of the U.S., while pumpkins of various hues are being harvested from farms and fields.

Who says you can't make S'mores for your family after summer barbeque season ends? With this easy and fun baking project you can enjoy s'mores throughout the fall and winter, too.

Prep Time: 5-10 minutes

S'mores Ingredients, MommyBlogExpert.com
What to set out before you begin
  • Graham Crackers
  • Marshmallows
  • Mini Peanut Butter Cups
  • Creamy Peanut Butter
  • Festive Fall Sprinkles & Sugars
Sprinkles & Sanding Sugar for Halloween & Fall Baking, MommyBlogExpert.com
Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2. Cut graham cracters in half crosss-wise with a sharp knife for nice straight edges
3. Cover cookie sheet with foil (to make cleaning later easier) & place graham crackers in pan with some space in between
 4. Get the kids to help you flatten the marshmallows a bit by gently smashing them down with the palm of the hand, then place one each atop a graham cracker
5. Bake until marshmallows have puffed up and they are a toasty, light brown caramel color, this will happen quickly so be sure to watch them carefully so they don't burn
6. Remove cookie sheet from oven and transfer hot graham crackers onto a either a serving plate or individual plates - remember to handle carefully, these will be hot
7. While still warm gently flatten the toasted marshmallows with a spatula some more, then smooth a small circle of peanut butter on top
8. Next add your choice of fall sprinkle or sugar directly on top of the peanut butter so it sticks
9. Then firmly press a mini peanut butter cup into the center of the area covered in sprinkles deep enough into the warm marshmallow so it melts
10. Everyone young and old is going to love these, so you might want to make a double batch

Not into baking or cooking? Instead, how about trying your hand at a fall project that even the creatively-challenged can excel at creating? What's more is, depending on your child's age and developmental skills, perhaps this is an arts & crafts project you can do together.

Spiced Orange Craft

Fall Spiced Orange Craft, MommyBlogExpert.com

Here's the perfect easy, fun fall DIY project -- Make a decorative Spiced Orange. All you need is an orange, some toothpicks, a thimble, whole cloves and ribbon (optional).

Directions

1. Take orange and poke tiny holes in the peel with toothpicks to make inserting cloves easier
2. Protecting your finger with a thimble, pressing cloves into the holes in the orange skin and making either a pattern or covering the entire orange
3. To add interest, try peeling decorative strips out of the orange peel and inserting cloves there
4. Display them in a bowl as a grouping or individually by attaching a ribbon to hang them around your home

Another idea: Using an orange as your canvas along with some whole cloves, a shrunk down image of a pumpkin carving stencil of your choice, and a black permanent magic marker make a Clove Studded Mini Jack 'O Lantern. Just transfer a stencil that fits your orange with a black magic marker then add cloves for a decorative effect using the same technique as the basic Spiced Orange project. There are plenty of free Halloween templates you can choose from on the Internet such as the crow silohouette shown above.

Book Review #PoweroftheHeart - Every Day Inspiration by the World's Greatest Thinkers

Books

This is a sponsored post

As a Baby Boomer and avid reader I've had extensive exposure to books in the spiritual and self-help categories during every decade from my teens to the present. To name just a few --These have included life-changing reads such as Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl (1959), I'm OK, You're Ok by Thomas Anthony Harris (1969), The Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav (1989), Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus by John Gray, (1992), and The Girls From Ames by Jeffrey Zaslow (2009). Joining that list of favorite books richly influencing the true purpose of life is The Power of the Heart by Baptist de Pape (2014) which will be released by Atria Books, a Division of Simon & Schuster, Inc., on October 7th.

MommyBlogExpert.com
For The Power of the Heart Baptist de Pape, a lawyer turned author and filmmaker, traveled to the far corners of the Earth to interview 18 of the greatest living teachers of our time -- spiritual leaders, doctors, scientists, and writers representing a patchwork of cultures.

Among the inspiring men and women interviewed for this book
  • Isabel Allende
  • Maya Angelou
  • Michael Beckwith
  • Deepak Chopra
  • Paulo Coelho
  • Joe Dispenze
  • Linda Francis
  • Jane Goodall
  • John Gray
  • Rollin McCraty
  • Howard Martin
  • Ruediger Schache
  • Marci Shimoff
  • Dean Shrock
  • Eckhart Tolle
  • Neale Donald Walsch
  • Marianne Williamson
  • Gary Zukav
MommyBlogExpert.com
Don't worry, I'm not going to quiz you on who each of The Power of the Heart's co-creators is and what makes him or her great because if you're like me, you probably don't know off-hand what makes every one of these people stand out on the world stage. Instead I'll refer you to the in-a-nutshell one paragraph biographies that de Pape has included at the end of this book.

The way this anthology of inspirational thoughts is organized makes it easy to pick and choose what and how much you'll read each day. What could be more perfect for those of us who lead uber busy lifestyles?

Rather than devoting a single section to one of the 18 people interviewed, this book is organized by topic featuring a selection of these lofty thinkers' contributions in each chapter. The book is divided into three basic parts corresponding to the relationships we all have in life: within ourselves, with friends and family, and with the whole world.
Connecting w/ my family on our Alaska vacay this summer, MommyBlogExpert.com
Zeroing in on the actual content, another good thing about this book is that it's not only about passive reading and learning from these great teachers. For example in Chapter 6 "The Power of Gratitude" there is The Three Blessing Exercise (page 64) that actively engages by encouraging you to write down at the end of every day what went well. This trio of things you identify daily -- whether tiny or big, trivial or monumental -- emerge as your three blessings of the day. Then next to each answer, you're asked to tell why each event that day went well.

According to de Pape after a week or more of doing this regularly, "You will feel better, happier and more grateful for all the blessings in your life. You will feel more connected to your heart and your life in the present."

Watch this short, but moving clip to get a taste of what The Power of the Heart is all about...
