HopeLine Domestic Violence Awareness

It's a grim reality: 1 in 4 U.S. women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and children and men are also often victims as well. Today we'd like to help spread the word about this important issue affecting all of us because even if you are not a victim yourself, you likely know someone who is (even if you are unaware of the violence they're enduring).

American women have made great strides on so many levels in the past decade. In fact, for the first time ever, females in the U.S. now hold more college bachelor's degrees than men at 30.2 percent compared to 29.9 percent for males. With all that progress, ironically, it's sad to point out that 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in our lifetimes. An additional 3 million kids witness domestic violence in their homes each year. Compounding things still further: Men are not immune either as victims of nearly 3 million domestic violence assaults.

MommyBlogExpert.com
As a 17 year-old I still can remember decades ago when I was in college and I was shocked to find out that one of my friends was being regularly beat up by her boyfriend and she continued to stay with him for many months. Why she stayed with him eventhough he was hurting her physically and mentally, I didn't understand. Thank goodness to get away from the situation she finally quit school and went back to her hometown in another state. The following school year she returned to school, unattached to resume her collegiate experience in a positive and productive way. Not everyone is so lucky because domestic violence often has much worse story endings.

If it hasn't happened to you, statistically it still could affect you personally in the future. Even if it doesn't chances are you already personally know at least one gal right now who has already been a victim (even if you are unaware of the actual verbal or physical violent incidents). That's why we all need to take action against this national epidemic by spreading the word to help each other.

How You Can Make a Difference
One of the best things you and I can both do to show we can is to support initiatives such as HopeLine® from Verizon which has the goal of collecting 1 million used cell phone donations by the end of 2015. All you have to do to recycle your old devices is drop off your wireless phones, chargers and accessories from any carrier at a Verizon store to help support victims and survivors of domestic violence.

Another way to support the cause and Verizon's HopeLine program is to BUY PURPLE by visiting any Verizon store or going online to purchase exclusive purple accessories. You don't have to be a Verizon customer to shop from a variety of purple items like this hip LG Tone Pro Wireless Stereo Headset MBE is giving away or a smartphone or table case and they will donate $1 per sale, up to $100,000, to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
