Who says iOS and Android users have a monopoly on Halloween fun? As I found out by searching for apps and other fun stuff related to All Hallows Eve that are compatible with my Nokia Lumia Icon smartphone, there's an almost endless supply of FREE spooky resources flying around out there in cyberspace for Windows smartphone and tablet users, too.

1.  Instagram 
This app for Windows is in BETA but don't let that stop you from using it this Halloween. Like the apps that run on the other two major platforms, this one allows you to customize photos within the app and then share the best images with Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr and FourSquare followers. Once you try Instagram for Windows you'll see that humans aren't the only ones wearing super hero costumes this Halloween.

2.  Pinterest
This app is also still in BETA and evolving. Nevertheless, Windows users can now discover and pin hundreds of the coolest creative DIY crafts, decor, party and costume ideas created from well-curated Halloween Pinterest boards.

Speaking of images, you can really dress up all the holiday photos you take with your Windows smartphone with this app. Check this out and you'll have access to hundreds of Halloween frames to choose from that will fit your horizontal and vertical shots.

Here's the place to go if you're looking inject all kinds of spooky sounds and ring tones into your smartphone or tablet. Perfect for getting into the mood of pulling pranks on friends and at Halloween parties -- even to scare those trick or treaters brave enough to come knocking at your door.

The Glow in the Dark Drink you'll discover among many other libations, once you download this app on your Windows phone or tablet.

Note: Just a few days ago Verizon discontinued the Nokia Lumia Icon which was first introduced in February 2014. Though that model is no longer available, the company still sells the Nokia Lumia 928 smartphone.

Disney Planes Fire Rescue Movie Fire Prevention

It's National Fire Prevention Week. That means there's no better time than now to share with you about the new Disney Planes Fire and Rescue(2014) Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD kids movie release scheduled for November 4th.

Mommy Blog Expert mom blogger Norma Perez covered a special event this summer at flagship The Disney Store in Glendale, California to celebrate this charming picture which graced the big screen just a few short months ago. 

It was a dream play date come true for Norma's young daughter, Sarah, who got to play with an assortment of new movie theme toys, participate in an engaging in-store activity and see a demo of a brand new app based on the animated film. The lucky kids and their families who got to attend the celebration also were treated to educational activities on camp fire safety, presented by the U.S. Forest Service. The festivities kicked off The Disney Store Summer Play Days free event for the public which took place in the brand's stores across the U.S. on July 19th.

In Disney Planes: Fire and Rescue, kids comedy sequel to the original movie Planes (2013), the familiar crew returns with another entertaining adventure and a new supporting cast of friends. What happens when Dusty Crophopper discovers his plane is damaged and he may be grounded for good? He becomes a member of an elite forest fire and rescue unit to train as a hotshot aerial firefighter.

Joining Dusty in the quest to save the day at Piston Peak National Park to put out fires are a bevy of loveable characters. These include Blade Ranger, Lil' Dipper, Windlifter, Maru, Cad, Mayday (played by the iconic actor Hal Holbrook) and Nick Loop'n' Lopez, voiced by Erik Estrada who many will remember from his role on the hit 70s TV show CHiPs -- as well as quite a few other interesting players.

In addition to lots of fun free online games and downloadable kids activities and crafts that are just a click away, learn more about Planes: Fire and Rescue on the Disney movie's official site.  With a runtime of approximately 83 minutes, the PG-rated movie will be released on Blu-ray + DVD and + Digital HD ($39.99); DVD ($29.99); and Digital HD on November 4th. It is available in-store and Amazon.

There is also a fun free Planes: Fire and Rescue by Disney app as well as a more indepth version of the app for iPhone and iPad offered in the iTunes Store.

The Judge, starring A-listers Robert Downey, Jr. Robert Duvall, Billy Bob Thornton and others opens in theaters on Friday, October 10th. But you're invited to a special free breakfast, movie screening of The Judge, and Q&A with the film's producer Susan Downey on the lot at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California the day before. How cool is that?

This event, scheduled for this Thursday, October 9th, is being organized by my good friends Denise Albert and Melissa Gerstein of The Moms.

Believe me, I am on the lots of just about every studio in Southern California frequently and there is always a high level of security. Review The Perfect Summer Movie DVD - Family Friendly Film for Kids to Enjoy into Fall

If you’re missing the lazy days of summer and looking for some home entertainment that’s family friendly and easily watchable for a family with young kids, this is a great pick. From a purely adult perspective, though, let it be made clear that The Perfect Summer is far from being a perfect movie, and may not be what you’re looking for if you’re an avid and attentive movie viewer.

The plot revolves around a 17 year-old (Adam Horner) and his mom (Sydney Penny), both whom are moving to a beach town after some sort of divorce or dispute with the father. Mom makes it her priority to help her son through the transition, since he is anything but a beach boy. 

As the movie progresses we are introduced to the slew of enemies and friends of the main character, giving us a very clear understanding of who is and isn’t out to make this new kid's life easy. He and his mom live with her father (Eric Roberts), who is later revealed to be a legendary surfer who quits due to alcoholism. After seeing how difficult it is for the main character to fit in, grandpa offers to teach him how to surf, which ends up being the young man's main motivation for trying to make his life happen in this small beach town.

The plot, while sweet and heartwarming, is nothing spectacular. With that said, however, it is easy to follow and would probably be most appealing to tweens. What I found most unsettling about this movie were the actors. The main character is painfully boring and lacks depth of personality, the girl he crushes on in the film is just another objectified woman who is fought over, and there was even a kid with a fake quasi-Jamaican accent. 

This film falls short in a number of ways for mature audiences. On the upside, it could work as “light reading” for kids and feel-good-film junkies. If you just need to relax, and your kids are eager to watch something on TV, this wholesome film can be a simple substitute to keep everyone distracted for the hour and a half that it runs.

To sum it up: “The Perfect Summer”, Not Quite Perfect.
