Annie Movie Inspired Target Collection Launches at Target on November 16

Fashion

The new movie Annie from Columbia Pictures, starring Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx and others, is scheduled to debut on the big screen on December 19th. Fans of the iconic Broadway Musical, however, won't have to wait till next month to start dressing the part. That's because Target is partnering with Annie to bring an inspired limited-edition girls collection into stores nationwide on November 16th.

The 25-piece line of elegant and playful girls clothing and accessories, designed by Annie costume designer Renee Ehrlich Kalfus, captures the essence of the film's characters. All items are affordably priced at under $30 each and include a whole closet full of outfits with fine details such as patching, embroidery, pretty buttons and tulle.

The show-inspired red girls dress pictured at the top of this post -- along with the iconic heart shaped locket in the collection -- are among the offerings that will take center stage in little girls' lives as soon as they go on sale this coming Sunday.

"The ideas for the collection," says Renee Ehrlich Kalfus, "came right from the designs I created for the movie, like the jean jacket and red dress that Annie wears. From there, I worked hand-in-hand with the Target team to create a line that would bring those pieces to life and into the closets of girls everywhere."

"Target is excited to bring guests a piece of Annie movie magic, just in time for the holiday season," says Stacia Andersen, senior vice president, Apparel and Accessories, Target. "The collection's mix-and-match theme inspires girls to express themselves by creating a look all their own, at prices moms and dads will appreciate."

Sony Pictures is likewise excited about the alliance. "We are thrilled to be part of Target's first collaboration with a costume designer and their first holiday capsule collection for kids," explains George Leon, executive vice president and head of consumer marketing, Sony Pictures. "Just like our film this collection was made with every girl in mind. Girls are going to fall in love with it."

About Annie

A Broadway classic that has delighted audiences for generations comes to the big screen with a new, contemporary vision in Columbia Pictures' comedy Annie.  The screenplay is based on the musical stage play "Annie," book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and on "Little Orphan Annie," © and ® Tribune Content Agency, LLC.

Academy Award® nominee Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) stars as Annie, a young, happy foster kid who's also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they'd be back for her someday, it's been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz).

But everything's about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) - advised by his brilliant VP, Grace (Rose Byrne) and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor, Guy (Bobby Cannavale) - makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in. Stacks believes he's her guardian angel, but Annie's self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it's the other way around.
