Crystal, the capuchin monkey that walked off on all fours with the top prize Lifetime Diva Achievement Award at February's 2015 Pawscars, is the real breakout star in Night at the Museum Secret of the Tomb #NATM3 just released on Bluray and DVD. Don't get me wrong, the other stars of this major motion picture including Ben Stiller, the late great Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Rebel Wilson and Ricky Gervais are all really impressive, at the top of their games and shining bright here.

It's just that Crystal, who plays monkey boy Dexter in this film, keeps popping up and sticking out her tongue to upstage her human co-stars in this wacky, spirited comedy that previously wowed theater viewers on the big screen.

Review

All of the viewing public's favorite museum heroes return in the final film in the triology Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. At the box office the NATM franchise was extremely popular, grossing more than a billion dollars altogether. Now, at last, this movie is ready to be enjoyed over and over again at home by kids, moms, dads and all others who love watching A-list actors, both of the human and monkey varieties.

As the final chapter of Night at the Museum unfolds, we come across Larry Daley (Stiller) and his brave buddies as they are off to London and The British Museum in a last ditch effort to save the magic that makes museum exhibits come to life. Along for the ride is wild and intelligent Crystal who plays guy monkey Dexter who you see sitting on Williams lap in the photo at the top of this post.

What's particularly special about this Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD release is that it comes with a Bonus Digital HD movie that you download (via Google Play, VUDU or Flixster) -- your choice of either the original Night at the Museum or Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.

Meeting Crystal the Monkey

Getting to touch and hold this talented monkey as well as interact with her closeup was most definitely a highlight of working on this film project as a Fox Home Entertainment Insider ambassador. Even after the studio event, which my daughter-photographer Sarah Elspas and I attended together, Mandy Rodgers, Fox publicist for this feature film, can't stop saying, "I love that monkey."

What the viewing public may not know is that Crystal is a diva in her own right and on set she works for yogurt, mixed nuts and Nutella. In case you're wondering -- Yes, she does deserve all that red carpet treatment because her career accomplishments are impressive with the last five pictures she has worked on (including the entire Night at the Museum triology) having grossed more than $1.5 billion at the box office. And that doesn't even include the total receipts from all 20 feature films on her resume to date which most recently includes Russell Madness which, like NATM3 launched on Bluray and DVD on March 10th.

Pound for pound this 1' 7" tall little lady sure has out earned even the leading men. You'll see her prominently and I think you will be truly entertained throughout her latest adventures in Night at the Museum 3.

Disney Frozen Sequel Announced Today Oscar Winning Animated Film Officially in Development

Movies

Super exciting news for fans of Disney and Frozen. It was just announced at Disney’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders this morning that the sequel to Frozen, referred to for now simply as Frozen 2, is officially in development now. Working on the all-new animated picture at Walt Disney Animation Studios are directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee and producer Peter Del Vecho, the Oscar®-winning filmmaking team behind the original Frozen.

“We enjoyed making Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters,” said John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios.  “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”

A release date and production details will be announced at a later day.

Plus don't miss my upcoming review on Disney's latest theatrical release Cinderella opening tomorrow, Friday, March 13th, and featuring this exclusive Frozen Fever short that cannot be seen anywhere else.

Easy Spicy Hot Chocolate Holiday Drink Recipe

Good Food

Can You Guess the Secret Ingredient?

Hot chocolate is always delicious on a cold winter day but with this chilly winter-like weather that many parts of the US are experiencing, it's time to amp up the flavor a bit to get us out of this slump. I think this elegant and easy recipe, which incorporates the secret ingredient of Colman's Mustard, is just the thing to help us all enjoy the holidays more as well as warm up our taste buds through winter and into spring.

Answer: The secret ingredient adding a spicy twist to this homemade hot chocolate is Colman's Mustard!

Recipe

Spicy Hot Chocolate
Yields 2 Servings

  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 ozs bittersweet chocolate, broken into chunks or grated
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 stick of cinnamon or 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa extra
  • A sprinkle of Colman’s Powdered Mustard
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional: A dollop of brandy and a little whipped cream

  • Directions

    1. Mix the cocoa powder, sugar, salt, Colman's Powdered Mustard and cornstarch together in a small pan.

    2. Pour 1/4 cup boiling water over the dry mixture and stir until everything is dissolved and you have a smooth paste. (You can skip this step and just add the dry stuff to the hot milk in the next step, but there will be cocoa lumps.)

    3. Put the milk, cinnamon stick and vanilla into a pot you can pour out of.

    4. Slowly heat the milk. When you judge it to be hot – not simmering or boiling, just hot – add the 2 ounces of chocolate. Stir to dissolve.

    5. Add the sugar/cocoa paste to the milk. · Keep stirring. When a ring of bubbles forms around the edges of the milk, turn the heat off. Remove the cinnamon stick.

    6. Pour the chocolate into two cups. Add an optional dollop of brand and a little whipped cream.
