Tully Charlize Theron Moms Interview with the Movie Director and Cast

Movies

MBE partnered with Focus Features for this post

As real-life mom of two Charlize Theron told us at her surprise media screening appearance with the cast, being a mother is hard. The next day, at the special press conference for mom influencers, our contingency of mother journalists delved deeper into Theron's personal perspectives on motherhood and her role in the new movie Tully (Focus Features, 2018).

Along with her co-stars (Mackenzie Davis, Ron Livingston and Mark Duplass), writer Diablo Cody, and director Jason Reitman, we talked about how the film uses both comedy and drama to lead the audience into the dark shadows of motherhood that are there but that regular parents don't always talk about.

Universal Challenges of Being a Mom

Motherhood and the way children are raised differs around the world and in different cultures in many ways.

Theron points out at the same time that there is also the common thread that ties us altogether, "I think there's something about being a parent that just is the same for everybody," she says.

"Ultimately, it's the one thing that I think we all share: we're just trying to get through each day to hopefully do the best things for our kids."

Don't be Afraid to Ask for Help

"There's a thing in South Africa," Theron explains. "We have this saying, 'It takes a village to raise a kid,' and I was raised that way. I grew up with a lot of people around me and my mom -- really sharing me with others.

"It was just great to grow up that way and it was always going to be how I was going to raise my own kids. I rely on those people. They are kind of like my chosen family. And I value what they bring to my kids' lives and I know that I'm not solely responsible for how great my kids are."

"I think this movie will maybe start that conversation a little bit more," Theron concludes, "because when we talk about help it always feels so cold. But you know, help can be something that's really warm -- it doesn't have to feel like this isolated thing that you're bringing in from the outside to help you. I think the more you think about it, it's just like becoming part of raising a child -- instead of just help. It makes you realize the value in that and I'm so grateful for the people that I have, not only in my life, but in my kids' lives."

About Tully
With Jason Reitman (JunoYoung Adult) at the helm as director, Tully debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The script, written by Producer Diablo Cody, is inspired by her own first-hand struggles and experiences as the mom of three. The comedy/drama stars Charlize Theron as Marlo the haggard mommy of two young kids plus a newborn. Rounding out the headliners in the cast are Mackenzie Davis as Tully, the young night nanny; Mark Duplass as Craig (Marlo's brother); and Ron Livingston as Drew, Marlo's husband. In theaters May 4th. Rated R, 1 hour 36 minutes, from Focus Features.

Marvel Avengers Infinity War Review No Spoilers Plus Wakanda Revisted Featurette

Movies

MBE partnered with Marvel Studios for this review

Marvel superhero fans have been waiting what seems like an eternity. It's finally here: after literally 10 years in the making, Avengers: Infinity War (2018) from Marvel Studios has opened on the big screen to rave reviews.

The production company which brought us Iron Man, Captain America, the Thor movies (most recently, Thor Raganok), and earlier this year, the blockbuster Black Panther, has done it again.

This time, it's Avengers: Infinity War, the latest installment in the ultimate superhero series. And, the long story short is that this picture just might be the best Avengers movie to date.

Prior to screening this with my spouse ahead of its big screen release, I can honestly say my expectations were not that high. After all, how many more thrills can the Avengers franchise contiue to eke out?

I have to say, though, that this film really caught me off guard me. It is so packed with action, laughs, and great dynamics between the incredible cast ensemble, that it washed away any feelings of doubt in my mind.

Watch this exclusive Wakanda Revisited featurette to get your adrenalin flowing and put you in the mood for what's in store in Avengers: Infinity War

Certainly the Avengers have had quite the wild ride so far, and it seems it is far from over yet. This time, they must join forces with a host of other Marvel heroes to face their greatest enemy to date -- Thanos, an intergalactic conqueror who is hell-bent on wreaking havoc across the galaxy.

Among the allies, Marvel enthusiasts will be treated to appearances by some of our favorite characters, including the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Wakandans from Black Panther.

Let me tell you, folks, none of them will disappoint. With an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Holland and strong female characters such as Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Pot -- and many others -- the stage is set for awesome chemistry between the full spectrum of superheroes and bad guys and gals.

Throughout the film's duration, directors Anthony and Jose Russo dole out a generous dose of witty banter and perfect comic timing. In fact, I don't think I've ever laughed this hard during a movie. Don't get me wrong, though.

At the same time, there are some surprisingly tense and heart-wrenching moments as well as much deeper personal development of many of the characters we thought we already knew so well.

How about plot twists? Without giving away any spoilers, let's just say come prepared to be shocked. You won't believe what the directors have in store for you this time around. At 2 hours and 40 minutes, this film has the longest run time of any Marvel Cinematic Universe release to date. But, not to worry, you will be kept on the edge of your seat from the opening through closing credits.

All in all, the Avengers: Infinity War is a blast, a fun date night out. A movie full of exciting, non-stop action, cool effects, laughs and drama. This film will surely entertain and appeal both to male and female audience members and will be what the buzz is all about in the coming days and weeks ahead.
